Firstly, fill the kettle with water to the maximum level, and then put it aside for a while. If there is water on the plate, it can prove that this kettle leak. It is normal if litter water left on the plate when water is boiled, because steam condensed on it. Sometimes it is just because you overfill the kettle with water, and water flow from the handle which make you misunderstand that the kettle leak. Fill the kettle with water within the maximum level will solve this problem.
